Mindful
The design of a user interface of an iOS application providing users with guided meditation sessions and mindfulness tracking
Project Overview
Individuals unfamiliar with meditation types can be assisted through guided meditation videos, aiding the user in areas such as relaxation and controlled breathing. Mindful aims to provide users with a platform on which they can set a personal goal of the number of weekly mindfulness sessions they would like to complete, and to track whether or not these sessions are effective in helping the user improve symptoms such as their anxiety and focus. Mindful aims to be an application which is intuitive to learn and easy to use, and to provide users with a calming and informative experience.

This design was completed as a personal project for the purpose of further developing my user interface design skills, and to create an application which I believe many users could find to be useful.
User Interface Design
First Prototype
Once the hierarchical structure was determined and wireframes were completed, a general colour scheme was chosen. The three main screens of the user interface were designed and prototyped for an iOS system, specifically the iPhone 8 Plus using Figma.

The home screen is laid out so that the user is able to view their progress toward their weekly goal, as well as navigate to begin a guided meditation session, log a previous meditation session that was unguided by the application, or view their history and progress. On the second page, the user is able to begin their meditation session with a guided video after completing a check-in, which they are able to customize to whichever symptoms they would like to monitor. Following a session, the user completes a post-meditation check-in, allowing a mindfulness history to be produced. The meditation log history displays two graphs: one to track the difference in symptoms rated before and after a meditation session, and one to display the rating of a symptom before and after a mindfulness session.

Reflection on First Prototype
This design was based on a light colour scheme, incorporating a small amount of moodiness through the darker hues of muted navy and blush. Though I personally enjoyed this colour scheme, the use of such colours may result in a restriction to female users due to its lack of ambiguity. So, a second prototype was created for the purpose of targeting a more inclusive user base.
Second Prototype
Using the same layout and hierarchical structure, a second prototype was designed using a different colour scheme of muted sage green and dark blue. This colour scheme was chosen in an effort to use calming colours, to follow the mindfulness and meditation theme.

Future Iteration
If this project were to be continued, initial usability testing would be completed to determine whether the layout of the application is intuitive to learn and easy to use. Following this, the other screens would be developed before performing tests to determine whether the application is providing users with the desired experience.
